$1900 Per person
The Shira route approaches Kilimanjaro from the west and joins the Machame route. There are several variations for Shira route. It can be done in six days but due to Machame trail the days will be extended for a longer version. The added transport makes Shira route more expensive. Shira route offers a four wheel drive and you can skip the first stage of the climb, the rainforest zone.
This drive takes you directly over 3500m without time for proper acclimatization. Overall Shira route has good success rates if schedule involves a night at karanga valley. However, the good success day is due to the operators on this being higher level than on the more crowded routes. You should also be confident about the way you will react to the altitude on the first day. The duration of the route is 6-8 days.
The main advantages are; it is less crowded on the first days and it is very scenic. The disadvantages are; The cost is very high, meets machame trail hence very busy on the later days.
The Umbwe route has a reputation for being the most challenging route on Kilimanjaro
It’s the shortest and steepest of the Kilimanjaro routes, and accordingly has a poor acclimatisation profile.
The entire route is a short, steep and direct climb.
The trail descends the mountain via the Mweka route.
